Old stories, retold
for a new generation.
Cynehelm Press is an independent small press based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, specializing in new works of literature and fiction that hearken back to earlier, half-lost traditions and bring them forward in a novel way for a new audience.
Whether we're talking about the earliest Old Saxon epic, the Silver Age dime-store pulps of the 1960s and '70s, or the timeless audacity of poetry that still dares to rhyme in the age of post-Beat, post-Seattle grunge free verse, the founding principle of Cynehelm Press is that these things matter—that, in the tradition of Antonin Artaud, the public can be affected by grand notions, and asks only to become aware of them, but on the condition that it is addressed in the language of its time.
Cynehelm Press, in its own way, is a press geared toward those who would be translators of the best aspects of the past and the best hopes of the culture for the hardest challenges of the present.
New stories, told
in the old way.
